Overseal 50th Parade and Gala thanks

The Donisthorpe Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps started to play and march. The fantastically bright and ingenious floats left the service road followed by a military tank, after months maybe years of planning, red tape, tears more red tape, wailing and gnashing of teeth The 50th consecutive Overseal Gala and Parade commenced.

The sun shone on a day that was more successful in many ways than the committee had dared to hope for. A massive thank you to the village from the Gala Committee for all their support leading up to and on the day. The field was crowded and the entire arena events were a great success.

The first Scarecrow competition was a resounding triumph and looks set to become a feature of future Galas.

The committee is though in danger of becoming a victim of its own success and desperately needs more help, particularly on the day; you don’t have to become a committee member but would be made very welcome if you did.

The committee is now lying in darken rooms until the next committee meeting on the 7th September when the annual Bonfire and Firework display will be top of the agenda.
If you missed the Fire Engine, unfortunately as part of cost saving economies they are not able to attend local events such as ours at the moment.

Forthcoming Events

Saturday 18th September: 1940’s night

Sunday 7th November: Bonfire and Firework display plus make a Guy competition; for more information on both these events contact Annette on 01283 763830

  1. Village Games has been in South Derbyshire for just over a year now. We have many sessions that are up and running that are either in your village or in neighboring villages. While these sessions are going well, in the long term and to make them more sustainable we would like to let people know what is happening around them giving them more variety of choice and a greater opportunity to become more active.

I was wondering if you could help by letting people in your community know about what is happening not only in your village but in surrounding villages by publishing the information below on websites, via email to contacts, news letters and in the Parish Magazines. This will help attract more people into these sessions make them more sustainable and keep sessions local to yourselves.

Christmas is coming the New Year will soon be upon us. Is one of your resolutions to get fit, loose a few pounds and have a better social life? If you would like to get fit and active in the New Year, but don’t like the idea of joining a gym, then we have just the thing for you. Village Games has lots of activities that are social, fun, will help get you fit and wont burn a hole in your pocket.

If you want to start slowly why not try a Tai Chi for health. Research supports claims that Tai Chi can help with many health related conditions, while these sessions are mainly aimed at over 40’s they are open to anyone. Linton plays host to Tai Chi on a Tuesday 10.30-11.30am at the village hall, the session costs just £3.

Not so nimble on your feet, but would still like to take part in some exercise, Chair Based fun and exercise which takes place in the Brick Room also in Linton. The sessions are free and open to all and so pop along for a cup of tea and some toast before joining in the sessions which start at 11am.

Village Games is also looking for more sports and activates to set up in your area if you would like to get involved or have an idea get in touch we are here to help make your ideas a success.

Look out for more sessions starting in your area soon
